Account Specialist - Direct Writer

Overview

We are currently seeking individuals with an appetite for meeting challenges and serve as the primary point of contact for customers and sales producers of a defined territory.  As one of our Account Specialist with our Direct Writer team, you will be responsible for the overall service experience and retention of business.  Our highly trained Account Specialists understands Sentry’s desire to write high-quality, profitable risks and is well-versed in commercial insurance and Sentry product offerings as well as excess markets available to us.  Account Specialists define underwriting authority and applies this in cross-selling or pursuing quote opportunities with both Sentry and Parker Stevens Agency.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as primary point of contact and resource for designated producer(s) and customers within the territory.  Assist sales producer in maximizing his/her selling time by servicing existing book, assist with cross-selling activities to meet account completion goals, collaborate with placement agency (Parker Stevens Agency).
  • Receive incoming customer calls, emails and faxes regarding service needs, changes, questions, and problems.  
  • Independently manages small commercial books of business (accounts < $7,500) within the assigned territories. Present renewal plans and recommend coverages to these smaller businesses. 
  • Maintain product and procedural knowledge of commercial lines, effectively review and explain coverages to customers. 
  • Liaison between sales producer, underwriting, other internal departments and/or customers in gathering of underwriting requirements and customer documents/signatures. 
  • Assist supervisors in regular quality audit programs as well as special audits. 
  • Primary resource for newer team members’ questions and training needs.  Will be called upon to act as a mentor.
  • Establish and perform proactive marketing efforts.  May enter and update leads into the system, generate warm-up letters, and administer status changes in the system. 
  • Maintain effective relationships with various home office personnel and functions, including premium audit, premium accounting, underwriting, customer service, safety services, and Parker Stevens Agency. 
  • Participate in projects that require a high level of knowledge of sales’ systems, procedures, workflows, and processes. Assist management in problem resolution and rush situations
  • Perform other job-related duties requiring the same general knowledge, skills, and degree of responsibility commensurate with assigned level.

What it Takes

  • Associate Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of related work experience.
  • Prior commercial lines insurance experience.
  • Ability to interpret and apply commercial insurance concepts and underwriting guidelines. 
  • Proficient in sales applications as well as internal processing software and processes. 
  • Exceptional composure, communications and human relations skills gained through prior experience in a customer service role. 
  • Presentation and selling skills are required.
  • Some limited travel is expected to attend team meetings and/or to meet prospects or current customers.
  • Strong PC skills are required as well as experience in a general office setting. Proficient and able to quickly learn a variety of software programs.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment and work independently with little direction is essential. 
  • If not fully licensed at time of hire, is required to pass/maintain the respective state's Property and Casualty licensing exam(s) within 120 days of hire.  Must meet continued education requirements.  May be required to pass/maintain the respective state’s Life and Health exam(s) within six months of hire if job responsibilities reflect the need.
